the pension granted to any officer who was on the Hong Kong establishment before the transfer of the Agencies, and that the effect of this proposal is that, instead of the pensions being calculated on an Imperial basis and paid out of Imperial funds with a contribution from the Colony, they

will be calculated on a Colonial basis with a contribution

from Imperial funds, The amount payable by the Colony

would, presumably, be the same in either case.

It will probably be necessary in the near future to

consider the granting of a pension to the Chief Clerk at

the Shanghai Post Office who was on the staff of that Agency when it was transferred, and the Postmaster General would be much obliged if the matter could receive early

attention.
